ATPmail Pro Requirements

We have designed ATPmail Pro with minimum requirements.

User Requirements

There are only two requirements for user's of ATPmail Pro.

  1. A Web browser.

    • Windows Platform - Internet Explorer 5.5+
    • All Platforms - Netscape 7+, Mozilla 1.3+, Firefox 0.6+

The plus sign (+) indicates that ATPmail Pro will work properly on versions of the program greater than the number. Browsers not supported will have varying degrees of functionality. Users will be given a warning if their browser does not meet the requirements.

  2. A POP email account.
Users can enter their own account information (server, user name and password), or the administrator can enter account information for the user.

Server Requirements

Server requirements are only relevent for customers purchasing the stand-alone version of ATPmail Pro. Users of the ATPmail service can ignore this section.

Nearly all web servers meet the requirements for ATPmail Pro.

Web server: ATPmail Pro has been tested extensively on the Apache Web server, on both Windows and Unix-based systems (Linux and FreeBSD). It has also been successfully installed on IIS. ATPmail was not written to use any Apache specific functions, so it should run on any modern Web server, but may need slight modifications.

Perl: ATPmail Pro was written entirely in Perl, using only the modules included in the standard distribution. This means that ATPmail is as portable as programs come.

sendmail or SMTP server: Any program which emulates sendmail, such as qmail or exim, will also work.

Spell Check: Virtually the only non-standard program needed by ATPmail for full functionality is a spell check program called aspell. This is a free program, and easy to install on nearly any platform. aspell can be downloaded from here. There is a $50 charge if you would like us to install aspell on your system.

Additional Utilities: Other utilities used by ATPmail: du (disk space usage), tar (used only for installation), gzip (used only for installation). These are virtually guaranteed to be on any unix-based system, and are available for Windows as well.

Program Installation

The installation for ATPmail Pro couldn't be easier. On most standard servers, the entire process can be done in a matter of minutes. When you order the stand-alone version of ATPmail Pro, you will receive an installation script and detailed instructions on how to perform a secure installation.

Following are the steps required:

  1. Create three directories for the program, the images, and the user data.
  2. Put the installation script into your program directory.
  3. Point your browser to the script and fill in the required information.
  4. Press the Install button.

That's it. The installation script contacts the ATPmail servers and downloads the latest version. All files are installed in the correct location, with the correct permissions. The same script can also be used to update your installation

The single user version of ATPmail differs from the multi-user version in a few ways. There is no admin script, no quota is enforced, and there is no user name. Login is done with just a password. In all other respects, the two version are identical.
